Shout franchise star Melissa Barrera is leading the horror romantic comedy your monster.
Caroline Lindy wrote and directed the feature film, which is based on her 2019 short of the same name. tommy dewey (Casual), Edmund Donovan (tell me Lies) and Kayla Foster (The Deuce, call Jane) complete the cast. The shooting is over.
According to the film’s synopsis, it follows “aspiring actress Laura Franco (Barrera), whose life falls apart after a cancer diagnosis and devastating breakup. The soft-spoken actress finds her voice again when she meets a terrifying but strangely charming Monster (Dewey) who lives in her “closet”.
Lindy and Kayla Foster co-produced, along with Mermade’s Kira Carstensen and Melanie Donkers, a division of Sharon Horgan and Clelia Mountfor’s entertainment company, Merman (Catastrophe, Herself), which focuses on projects by emerging creators.
Shannon Reilly of Bombo Sports and Entertainment also produced, with Bombo’s Bob Potter and Dewey serving as executive producers. Mermade’s Jack Taylor Cox and Jackson Sinder serve as co-producers.
“Melissa and Tommy bring a romance and depth to their roles reminiscent of our favorite classic rom-coms. Establishing that chemistry across a mix of genres is something I am very excited to share with audiences,” said Lindy, who is making her feature film debut in your monster. Her short was made with a grant awarded to Lindy by Women in Film.
“As a women-owned business, Merman is a proud mentor to WIF. When we saw Caroline’s short, we immediately knew that the concept, and Caroline, were very special. The addition of Melissa to star alongside our monster Tommy Dewey took the project to the next level,” said Merman global managing partner and producer Kira Carstensen.
Barrera, which hits theaters with the sixth installment of the Shout franchise this weekend, is represented by WME, Sugar 23 and Johnson Shapiro. Lindy is represented by Thruline Entertainment and Ziffren Brittenham.
