He could have become chief minister, but he has to constantly fight BJP’s attempts to undermine him and shake off the feeling that he is in power but not in power. Again, the Elections Commission of India (ECI) may have granted his faction official Shiv Sena status, and allowed them to retain the party’s bow and arrow symbol, but it is Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray’s faction that garners all the sympathy. And on May 11, a five-judge constitutional bench headed by the Chief Justice of India, D.Y. Chandrachud, offered his government a reprieve by refusing to restore the status quo ante and reinstate Thackeray as Chief Minister, as he voluntarily resigned the day before his was asked to prove its majority in the House. But that’s not the end of Shinde’s troubles.
